February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.
This is the second verse of The Garden Year – the rain has certainly kept away so far this month and we have again been able to enjoy our outdoor learning in some rather mild temperatures.
Thank you to those of you who completed the sandwich challenge last week – we did feel hungry hearing all about the making process, particularly hearing all the different fillings! Here is your challenge for this weekend…..
Weekend “I wonder if” challenge….
I wonder if you can look up where you live on a map.
If you would like to send in photographs or videos then please do so through Teams or email them to the office, or you might want to bring the map into school – all the learning will be shared during the whole school worship on Tuesday.
Every day, we look at the weather forecast for the day and discuss whether we need coats, waterproofs, gloves hats etc for our outdoor learning. For this we use the BBC weather forecast map. You might wish to refer to this when completing the weekend challenge – naming the different parts of the United Kingdom too!
This week…..
We celebrated the Chinese New Year – this year it is the year of the tiger. The Robins children have made their own unique handprint tigers and have started to write some tiger facts as well as create a class Chinese Dragon which will be up on display this week in the classroom.
Also, we have class pets!
Yes – we have our very own stick insects to look after and care for, they are proving to be a big hit with the children as well as a source of curiosity and fascination.
Stick insects need fresh leaves and therefore, we have decided that we all need to take responsibility for looking after these stick insects so we will be asking one child each week to collect the leaves over the weekend and bring them in on a Monday (don’t panic at this point – we have already spoken to the parent and child who is responsible for this week’s leaf collection!). We will let you know in advance when it is your child’s week and there will be a ‘leaf guide’ given to your child so you know what leaves to look out for! (click on the black box below)
Rev. Miri came to talk to us about why God is special. She talked about Christians believing that God was able to do amazing things such as creating the world, the birds, nature etc and that he loves and knows each and every one of us – even knowing the number of hairs on our head – it takes someone special to know this! We also learnt that through the stories in the Bible, we too can understand how God wants Christians to behave.
Here are some quotes from the wonderful and insightful discussions that took place durng Rev. Miri’s visit….
We finished off the week by carefully hanging our bird feeders on the tree and then enjoyed a lovely afternoon out in the Forest School area.
Next Week……
Next week is parents’ evenings – if you have not already made an appointment, please speak to Mrs Bell in the school office, she will be more than happy to book you in to an available slot.
In Phonics, we will be focussing on the sounds l,ll,s,,ss. You might want to support this learning with some pre learning at home – can you think of words starting with the sound……s, can you spot ss and ll in your reading book – where are they in the word – beginning, middle end?
Sounds taught so far

We are almost at the end of Phase 2 and will be looking to start Phase 3 before half term. Please support your child with their learning of the sounds and their reading so that they continue to be secure in Phase 2 and are confident and ready for Phase 3 – the reading books will match their learning so the more reading they do the more secure their phonic knowledge becomes and of course the books they read count towards the reading challenge (info sent home in book bags this week) and you all know how competitive I get when it comes to a whole school challenge – simply put –
Robins have to win!!!!!
Have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.
