It has been lovely meeting with you all this week during parent evening appointments, thank you so much for your kind words and feedback, very much appreciated.
This week………
Huge excitement this week – we went out on our first school trip of the year! The sun was shining, we had smiles on our faces, we were wearing hi-vis jackets and we went on the school mini bus (I think even if we had just driven around the village for 20 minutes then the children would still have been just as overjoyed as for all of them, this was their first time on the mini bus and they could hardly contain their excitement!). But there was more to come……
We soon arrived at Trindledown and were greeted by Cy and Rachel who were more than happy to show us around and introduce us to the animals. We met Popeye and Starling the ponies, Ernie the pig, Cola the rabbit, Patricia and Peter the tortoises, we fed the sheep and alpacas, walked through the dog corridor, looked in on the cats and called and called to Barry the pig but we think he was asleep as he did not poke his head out to see us – maybe next time. As we walked back across the car park I overheard Oscar say to his friends, “Wow this place is so amazing, I just love it”, Oscar, I think you were speaking for all of us as we all had the most amazing afternoon and are really looking forward to visiting again next term.
This week we also learnt about Rosa Parks and her fight against segregation. First, we all imagined we were going on a bus journey – we were able to choose our seats on the ‘bus’. Next, we sat differently, girls one side, boys the other and we talked about how we felt when our choice was taken away. We then watched the video story of Rosa Parks. We discussed the following questions, should Rosa Parks have broken the rules, is it ever ok to break the rules?
In Phonics we recapped on sounds s,a,t,i and were introduced to p. Now that we have learnt a few sounds, we can start making words such as sit, tip etc. One idea you might like to try at home is to cut up an empty cereal box into squares, write a letter sound on each square and try word building with your child, sliding the letters in and out of position as you change the word….sit, pit, sat, pat, tip, sip. Can they hear the sounds in the word?
We will go into this and more ideas when we meet on Wednesday during our ‘Supporting your child to read’ workshop. We are looking forward to seeing you all.
In Maths, we continued matching and sorting. 0n Monday morning there were socks everywhere (all clean) and they needed to be hung on the line in pairs. The children were quick to pair them up but soon discovered that there was an odd sock - well there is always an odd sock isn’t there? We searched high and low for its matching partner but simply could not find it…..we are still keeping a look out and I am sure it will turn up one day!
Thank you for sending us your videos, photos and items for Show and Tell. It is such an important part of our week. It is not easy presenting something to the whole class and the more the children do it, the more confident they become, their vocabulary develops and their Oracy skills improve, so please keep sending items in, whether it be a video of your child singing, riding a bike, riding a horse….anything that your child wishes to share with their friends.
Next Week……
In Phonics we will learn letter sound n as in noise and in Maths we will be comparing amounts and using key vocabulary such as more, the same and fewer than.
We will also be reciting our poem - Leaves are Falling, during our Harvest Festival. I hope to record our performance and put it on this learning page at the end of the week.
Have a lovely weekend, see you all on Monday.
