End of the the first week back after half term...

This week the children have come back to school after half term with great enthusiasm for their learning. The homework books are a success and the children seem to be enjoying them too. Please keep up the daily reading.

The power of punctuation…

In English, we have been working hard developing our sentence structure skills, really focusing on the use of the comma when using parenthesis in our writing. We are really deepening our understanding of how closely linked reading and writing are through the power of punctuation! The children have written some excellent setting and character descriptions and their work is proudly displayed on our WOW wall.

In maths, we have continued to practice the main operations including application of skills to a range of question types. Keep practicing number facts - speed up the mental maths! This will really help in all areas of maths.

Dance workshop and performance

On Thursday, the whole school had a dance workshop - Red Kites had so much fun learning their routine. The enthusiasm and eagerness was impressive. We even practiced at the top of the hill on our geography field trip! The children performed so confidently to the rest of the school and parents. Well done.

GEOGRAPHERS AT WORK….

We took to the local fields and conducted our geography fieldwork on Thursday as well. We observed the geographical and topographical features that we noticed in our chalky landscape and compared the similarities and differences to those of Shropshire. We have also learnt about the impact weathering and erosion have on different rocks and landscapes. It was a lovely walk - the sun came out for us. It was brilliant to hear the children chatting together about the landscape but also much fun to spend time together outside of the classroom. We have reminisced a lot this week of our fond memories of Manor Adventure!

Mrs Kimber even got a photo of us from the school grounds!

This term our Christian Value is Compassion. We have spent time discussing what this truly means and looks like. The children have been awarded their badges of responsibility - we have had a big class chat about those responsibilities, the importance of them and our expectation that we see them carrying out those responsibilities every day. Please remind, encourage and talk to your children about what their responsibilities are in Red Kites.

Wishing you all a restful and fun weekend. If you attend Firework/bonfire displays, stay safe!

Take care,

Miss Oram
