Week 6 in Red Kites

“I just can’t wait to read on…” Red Kite

This week, after days of building on prediction skills, Red Kites finally discovered the title and book cover of their new text in reading and english. Active learning has been impressive as the children have been eager to find out what happens to this mysterious place. This book will open up thoughts around climate change and the impact on our world. We have had a lot of discussion around the theme of this book and the powerful language used. We have also used drama and role place to explore vocabulary.

LIBRARY VISIT

We were also visited by the West Berks Library again where children were able to return book, received their recommended reads they had requested and had the chance to take new books out after a leisurely browse. There is real love for reading and buzz around books in Red Kites, whether it is during reading or writing, library or our end of the day read. Enjoy your books over the weekend!

JENGA!

Breaktime’s have been very loud and intense this week as we have taken to playing mega jenga. It’s been lovely to see the encouragement and enjoyment amongst the children while they play.

MAD MATHS TRICK

Two members of our class went to a maths masterclass this week. They came back with a clever magic maths trick up their sleeve to share with the class! Thanks for the challenge!

CONKERS

We are collecting conkers for our learning gem jar - if you are out and about over the weekend, if you see fallen conkers on the ground, please collect a few and bring into school. Leave some for the animals!

Finally, don’t forget…

  • parents evening next week

  • harvest service on Wednesday - keep practising your singing

  • hand homework in on Monday

  • wear correct uniform to school everyday

Thank you for this week Red Kites - it’s been a pleasure. Have a lovely, restful weekend. Stay safe and see you on Monday. Take care, Miss Oram and Miss Carter
