The title of our blog this week links to our Science learning all about food chains. We explored what a food chain is and why we are learning about them. We discussed a range of living things and decided how they would fit into a food chain.
For example:
grass -> rabbit -> fox
The rabbits gets this energy from the grass and the fox gets his energy from the rabbit.
This week we have also been doing a lot of learning in English.
For Reading, we have been preparing ourselves for Year 3 and having a go at whole class guided reading. We have really enjoyed reading The Diary of the Killer Cat together and then challenging ourselves to answer questions about the part we read.
For Writing, we have been finishing and editing our instructional texts all about how to trap a mouse. Kingfishers have really enjoyed innovating the How To Trap A Stone Giant text into their own version of how they would trap a mouse. There were lots of items used like a giant piece of cheese, a huge box and biscoff spread.
For Spelling, we have been practicing the spelling rule for words ending in e when adding a suffix. We learnt that when a word ends in e and there is a consonant before it, you drop the e from the word and then add the suffix. For example: like + ing = liking because k is a consonant. But canoe + ing = canoeing because o is a vowel we keep the e in the word.
In Maths, we have been making links between known facts and addition and subtraction with money.
For example:
I know 3 + 7 = 10 so I know 30 + 70 = 100.
30p + 70p = 100p or £1
In gymnastics this week, we recapped the learning about forward rolls from last week and developed our skills into starting to learn the steps to safely do a backwards roll and a handstand.
