This week Kingfishers have really thought about the detail in their learning and the effect it can have. During our English lessons this week we particularly thought about the detail used as we discussed and explored what an effective character description is. We showed our understanding of how writers create effective character descriptions by reading given examples, highlighting the detail and considering which character it could be.
The theme of thinking about detail continued into our phonics this week. We discussed and practiced applying the spelling rule for using the suffix ‘s/es’ to decide how the suffix should be spelt by looking at the letters at the end of a word. For example, making “church” plural would be spelt as churches and making “book” plural would be spelt as books.
During our maths learning we explored the concept of exchanging 10 ones for 1 ten when performing additions where the ones column has more than 9 ones in it. We thought carefully about when we needed to exchange in order to solve a ranging of addition questions.
Big Write Wednesday has continued this term with Kingfishers writing a story about a mini dinosaur they found in their garden. Why not ask them about the adventure their dinosaur went on?
On Wednesday 18th January, Kingfishers Big Write task will be to write about your best day. It could be any day you choose. You could write about a day on holiday, a birthday, a special event in school or at home. Kingfishers may want to spend some time this weekend discussing what they might write about. It might be a good idea to draw a picture of all the ideas you discuss and bring it in on Wednesday to help you with your writing.
We look forward to reading your writing.
