Happy New Year and welcome back!
Firstly, if we haven’t already managed to catch up with you face to face, we would just like to say thank you for all the cards, kind words written and gifts that were given just before Christmas – it was very kind and generous.
Also, for Year 1 only, message from Miss Reynolds
“ For our Science lesson this week (Tuesday), if possible, please can you bring in an empty jam jar, washed and with the label removed. Thank you”
This week…….
It was so lovely to see everyone return on Wednesday, full of smiles and with plenty to say. We eased ourselves back in gently with lots of games, turn taking and co-operative play, friendships were quickly re-established and routines were followed. By Wednesday afternoon, we had a lot of tired minds and bodies, I am sure most of the children had an early night!
On Wednesday, we also welcomed Miss Robinson into our classroom. Miss Robinson has joined us for 8 weeks as part of her teacher training, this is her second school placement.
Miss Reynolds will continue to be in Robins until the end of January, and then she will take up her second school placement until her return in April.
On Thursday, we slipped back into our usual routines, it was like putting on a comfy pair of slippers – it just felt right. We started our morning following our lollipop activities (we have a board and the colour of the lollipop determines which activity we do – it changes weekly).
Some Year 1 children were using Numicon to find halves and doubles and were writing number sentences to match their Numicon. Other Year 1’s were introduced to ‘Fast Writing’, copying the sentences from their reading books, ensuring their letter formation was correct, developing their skills from looking at words in front of them and transferring the words on the page in their writing book, remembering spaces between words, looking at where the capital letters and full stops needed to be used etc. Some of them found this quite challenging on Thursday but were fast becoming experts by Friday! If your child wants to do some ‘Fast writing’ at home and you would like an exercise book from school, please let us know, we are always happy to support home learning and we know that the children like to have the same resources at home as they use in school.
The lollipop activity for the early years children was to match objects to numerals, they needed to be able to recognise the number on the card and then demonstrate 1:1 correspondence, counting accurately so that the number of objects matched the numeral on the card. This week they have also been learning the sound ‘qu’ in phonics, learning how to say the sound, find it in words and write it.
With the start of the new term, we have made some slight changes to our timetable.
Below is a brief overview followed by the main headline reminders…..

And finally…….we finished the week off with our outdoor PE session led by Alex, one of the coaches from MNR. Alex reported back that the Robins were amazing, very well behaved and full of enthusiasm. My favourite quote of the week has to come from Reuben, even before they got dressed to go outside Reuben said “I love outdoor PE, I love indoor PE but I love outdoor PE the most, I just know that every Friday is going to be the best day of my life”.
