December brings the sleet,
Blazing fires and Christmas treats.
I think the above rhyme has been pretty accurate this week. We started the week with some very chilly weather. We wasted no time in getting outside and exploring what the effect of the cold snap had on our outdoor learning space – the rich green astro turf was blanketed in a light covering of snow, our ladles in the mud kitchen were frozen inside blocks of ice – the same shape and size as the bowls, the teapots were almost impossible to pull out of the water tray which was now an ice tray!!! It certainly created a moment of wonder, laughter and fascination.
We make no apololgy for the long blog this week and all the photos - it is simply because we are incredibly proud of everything the Robins do and we just want to share it all with you - please look at the page with your child and enjoy seeing what they have been up to this week.
On Tuesday we headed to Wantage Museum. We learnt all about The Little Red Hen on the Lockinge Estate. We learnt about life in Victorian England by handling objects, spotting shapes, materials and colours all around the museum. We spent a lot of time looking and talking about all the exhibits - it is a fascinating place and I highly recommend a visit.
We also celebrated – St. Andrew’s day this week. We learnt that St Andrew was a fisherman and was the first of Jesus’s disciples, we watched a short video of two brothers celebrating St Andrew’s day, they wore traditional kilts, enjoyed traditional music and dance (ceilidh) made some shortbread and enjoyed some warm and delicious porridge. “I love shortbread and porridge” was one comment shouted from the classroom “and I do…..and I do….and I do” so guess what we made in our cooking session this week……yes – shortbread and porridge!
On Wednesday we waved goodbye to November and said hello to December – and what a surprise we had on Wednesday morning. It would appear that Santa’s Elves had been in school overnight and had transformed our Rainforest area into a Christmas living room scene, complete with advent calendar, tinsel, lights, presents, trees, baubles etc - we were all very excited!
The Home corner in the classroom has been replaced by an Elves workshop – and what a busy workshop it has been already – the phone has been ringing non stop, orders have been coming in on-line and letters have been written, posted and received. The Elves in the workshop have had to measure the wrapping paper, cut, stick and wrap the presents as well as hand decorate the wrapping paper all ready to go out for delivery very soon!
In the Christmas living room, trees were being created and decorated, stories were being shared and the Nativity story was being retold.
Thank you so much for all the contributions for Show and Tell – and what a Show and Tell it was – the best one yet. We met Tank, Del Boy, Jerry, Boo Boo, Bruney, Wigglebum, Cookie,Toskar, Flossy, Molly and Poppy – Poppy is a singing dog - we all thought she was AMAZING.
Next week I think the theme can be Christmas trees……send in photos of your trees or your favourite decorations! You can either send them in through Teams or email them to the office.
We finished off the week in a similar way to how we started it - with another celebration, Christingle. Every class held a Make your own Christingle workshop and every child took home their own Christingle in readiness for the Christingle Service. It was so lovely to see so many of you there, it is so special when the lights go off and the Church is filled only with candlelight.
What a fantastic Chrismassy way to end the week. Please rest well over the weekend and save all your energy for the Nativity performance next week.
Have a lovely weekend – see you all on Monday.
