We discovered...

The title of this blog is linked to more than one area of our learning this week.

In phonics, we were discovering this week’s sounds/spelling rules in a range of activities. Here are some pictures that captured our discoveries:

In English, we finished our diary entry and spent some time discussing our writing and discovering how we could make improvements. We worked together as a class to re-write a paragraph and add improvements.

In Maths, we discovered how to use our previous learning to add across 10. This method was tricky at first for some of us but we soon started to grasp it.

Here’s the method:

For example, 46 + 9 = ?

I know 6 needs 4 to make 10.

So I’ll partition 9 into 4 and 5.

46 + 4 = 50

I need to add 5 more so in total I have added 9.

50 + 5 = 55

46 + 9 = 55

In science, we discovered the use of certain materials for certain objects i.e. a flipper is made of rubber because it is waterproof and flexible. Here are some pictures from our science lesson:

During our Big Write Wednesday session, Kingfishers asked if they could have more time next week to write about the dragon. So this week we will be finishing our stories, instructions or information texts about the dragon. See last weeks blog for the picture and questions to discuss.
